We may sometimes carry the world on our shoulders. We tend to carry worries about the future, regrets about the past, and responsibilities that are not ours to bear. We have the ability at any time in our day to pause, take a few deep breaths, and change our focus to pure delight and joy.
How can we make such a drastic, sudden change in our thinking? Here is a short meditation that may help:
Imagine the heavy weight of worries and concerns in a backpack that you set at your feet. Feel the lightness of letting it all go for now. As you take several deep breaths, bring your awareness to your heart center. Imagine a tiny spark of golden light right in the middle of your chest. This spark is the divine spark of Joy. It is your true nature. It does not depend on your bank account, your relationship status, or world events. It is the unconditioned, pure essence of Divine delight within you.
With every breath you take, feel this golden spark expand. Watch it grow warmer. Watch it grow brighter. It begins to fill your entire chest cavity. It softens your shoulders. It relaxes your jaw. It brings a gentle, natural smile to the corners of your lips.
We know that light always dissolves darkness. Let this light of joy wash over any areas of heaviness, grief, or anxiety in your body. Do not fight the heaviness; simply let the light overcome it. Feel yourself opening up, expanding, and becoming lighter.
You are tapping into the high-vibrational frequency of pure delight.
Now spontaneously think of something that makes you smile: a child’s laughter, a fun time with a child or a beloved pet. Think of funny cat or dog videos or whatever causes laughter. Enjoy this time of allowing joyful, playful images to emerge within you. Savor this experience of joy and pure delight for a few moments in the Silence.
When you feel lighter and happier, begin to come back to the present moment. Take several deep breaths, knowing that you have made a shift within yourself. The backpack of worries that you left at your feet has disappeared. If thoughts of your worries enter your mind you realize that joy and delight are far more powerful, since light always overcomes darkness.
Love and Peace,
