Today, we begin a deeply meaningful journey together. Over the next four weeks, our Sunday lessons will focus on a central theme that touches the core of the human experience: "Coming Home."
This morning, for Week 1, we open this series by exploring the concept of "Honoring Home."
When we think of home, we often think of our physical surroundings—our houses, apartments, and the neighborhoods where we lay our heads. Home is where we live our outer lives, but as we know in Unity, the outer is always a reflection of the inner. Home is also a spiritual destination. It represents the sacred center within each of us where we are completely connected to the Divine.
Our journey through life often follows a universal pattern: home, leaving home, and returning home. You might think of it as paradise, paradise lost, and paradise regained.
We begin in innocence and comfort (paradise). Then, we venture out into the world, often feeling lost, disconnected, or separated from our true nature (paradise lost). Finally, through spiritual awakening and conscious effort, we make the trek back to our true identity—discovering that the paradise we thought we lost was within us the entire time (paradise regained).
Home is a particularly vital theme for all of us right now. We see it shifting and evolving on every level:
Our dwelling places: Creating sanctuary in our personal spaces.
Our spiritual community: Finding a soft place to land and grow together here at Unity.
Our country and our world: Recognizing our global interconnectedness and honoring the Earth as our shared home.
To help you anchor these ideas into your daily life, please make sure to pick up your Sunday handout today. You can also download it by clicking HERE. This handout is designed to guide your personal reflections and prepare you for our Wednesday Zoom class, from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm CT, where we will gather for a deeper follow-up discussion and share our insights.
Let us open our hearts today to honor the home we are in, the home we are building, and the eternal inner home where God dwells.
Love & blessings,
Rev. Kathy
